This Week In Baseball-Phillies Edition

Leading Off
Justin Upton of the Baltimore Orioles went 2 for 5 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI against the Boston Red Sox while at Nationals Park Jake Cronenworth, of the Colorado Rockies, was 3-4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. On the other side of the diamond P. Lopez (7-13) pitched a solid 8.1 innings allowing only 3 Hits and  striking out 10 for the Miami Marlins with a first-rate effort against the Pittsburg Pirates hitters. It’s high effort and high run totals in the mile high city as we head into the playoffs on This Week in Baseball, Phillies Edition.

Philling in the NL
@Buck Showalter – Orioles  recently commented, “Looks like the playoff teams are pretty much set at this point with 12 games remaining. I’m actually trying to win games. How sad….” Well, so are the Philadelphia Phillies Buck. The Phillies who are mathematically eliminated from the playoffs still took the opportunity to stick it to the New York Mets defeating them 6-3 at Citi Field in Queens, NY.The win was due in large part to Teoscar Hernandez. The Phillies right fielder was 1-4 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Seranthony Dominguez notched his 1st save in 2 chances. The New York Mets magic number now sits at 2 to clinch the final playoff spot available in the NL.

Around the AL
In Arlington this week Eloy Jimenez of the Chicago White Sox supplied some fireworks of his own. This International Free Agent made his debut in September and has been putting on a show since joining the show. In the 8th Inning with three on and two out the Chicago slugger whacked a W. Benjamin pitch deep into the stands. Since joining the league only six games ago the Dominican born Left Fielder has slashed .476/.522/1.095. There is surely bright things to come for this future all star.@Dan (CWS) the GM in Chicago spoke about the magical run his player is currently on, “Eloy played for the first time this season and homered on the first pitch he saw. He then homered again in each of the next two games.  He pretty much locked up an everyday starting role in the playoffs.””We will be looking to see more production from the tall fielder as he stands in to take his cuts during the playoffs.”Four teams are still jockeying for position in the AL playoff picture. The Kansas City Royals need to get after it to close a four game gap and make the playoffs, while the Houston Astros have a magic number of 3 to clinch the AL West Division. The other New York team, the Yankees, need to close out first place in the east, while the Toronto Blue Jays and the Tampa Bay Rays look to keep pace and clinch the final WC berth.”Good luck to all our playoff bound teams.”

What the CEL!
The best record wins in the CEL so there is no playoffs in this League. What do they win for their effort? Tell em Eddie! “The Las Vegas Rat Pack and @Leitao – Rat Pack won it. And their “prize” is they get pick 31 and New Jersey settles for pick 32 in the amateur draft coming up. Then they get to do it all again next year. The two teams will join the OMLB in the third season as expansion teams, one in each League.@Eddie Paxil NJ and Commish let us in on what’s happening in the deep think tank of the expansion New Jersey war room, “I don’t think our top level CEL record reflects our actual gains this season. We won at all other levels our draftees are performing well, and our farm system is already highly respected. We’ll be ready to roll as expected in 2023, and to your next question, I know our owner, A Rod agrees.””Thanks Eddie for all you do.””That’s all for this week folks! Join us again next week for This Week in Baseball, Phillies Edition.”
