Phillies Sweep Marlins to Open Second Half of Season!

The Philadelphia Phillies trumped the Miami Marlins, 6-2 and 3-1 before completing the sweep with a 7-2 drubbing, at Citizens Bank Park in the final game of their series. Philadelphia center fielder Roman Quinn was terrific. He went 5 for 13 in the series and 3 for 5 in the final game with 3 singles, while scoring 2. The last-place Marlins have dropped 5 straight games. With no one out in the bottom of the third, Andrew McCutchen barreled up a fastball from Ross Detwiler. The result was a 2-run home run, putting the Phillies in front, 4-1.”I thought we played a nice game,” McCutchen told us after the game. “Good pitching, timely hitting, it was all there.”We love talking with GM Johnny Rose here at TWIB PEE and he piped in, “Well, things seem to be moving downhill fast. Which is what the team must’ve been thinking when McCutchen came up to bat in the third inning. Oh and that hit got a smile out of Gonzales. The last time anyone saw him this happy was when Quinn struck out on 3-and-1 fastball! All right we are starting to make some moves now. Fastball, I said Fast-ball, I was supposed to say Slider which is about the only Fastball he can hit!”Well said Johnny, we will take that under consideration.”

Around the AL
The LA Angeles “Sho Time” Ohtani has 18HR in 277 ABs this season in his role as a DH. The Angeles have him batting fifth in the lineup. He is a little off his Hall of Fame pace even while his GM tries to shop him around the league. @Angel_Brian the GM chimed in, “Nah, this is a potential HOF, I need more than a top prospect and some relief pitchers for him.”Currently Ohtani is pitching to a 5.52ERA in over 13 starts with a 1.43 WHIP. Those are certainly not HOF numbers by any stretch. We are sure here at TWIB PEE that sooner or later this guy is going to catch fire, likely when the new update comes out.”That’s all for this week folks! See you next week on This Week in Baseball, Phillies Edition.”
