Vote on Contract Incentive Cap

Post by Eddie Paxil-Commish » Sat Aug 12, 2017 8:31 pm

Should the total dollar amount of any incentives given in a contract be capped?

Options:
1. No cap on incentives
2. The 10% cap in the old rule. 10% of the highest guaranteed year for each incentive.
3. A 25% cap. 25% of the highest guaranteed year. 25% allowed for the total of all incentives
4. I'd like a cap, but let's come up with a different option after this vote.

So I looked over the contract rules that were last voted in after a discussion with Jesse. I noticed there was something dropped from the original contract rules to the new ones that I don't believe was intentional. We didn't carry over an kind of dollar amount cap on incentives. So here's an impromptu vote to add one. There are 4 options, even one to come up with a new option.

Here was the last contract rules discussion: http://theomlb.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=1165

Here are the old contract rules discussions: http://theomlb.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=21

10% is fine with me. I am not confident the AI values these very well.

Don't really use incentives, so I really can't vote.

As I voted #4, clearly there will be discussion should that show most votes.

My idea would be a simple one. Instead of a formula by which to calculate the maximum value of incentives, let's settle on a number - say $2M or $5M or $10M as the max?
For smaller contracts it would obviously be a huge incentive comparatively, while the larger contracts (IMHO) would not need massive incentives as the contract itself is where the value is.

Plus that might help smaller budget teams (as we seem to be attempting to do elsewhere) as the focus would be more on the actual contract and not the ability (should they choose) of larger budget teams to BOTH offer a higher annual value and ALWAYS max out incentives based on percentage of that value to puff up a contract so it potentially falls in their favour more often.

Plus, it's simpler for whoever is double-checking these (as I am sure someone will offer an incorrect about - like leaving their players DFA).

The AI will request them whether I offer them or not.

We will add the old maximum per incentive of 10% of the max guaranteed year back into the contract rules.
